Richard W. Hughes
Tibet Andesine Expeditions

Pictured at left is the location of what the Richard W. Hughes Tibet Andesine Expeditions have reported as the location of a multi-million dollar andesine mine that has been producing millions of carats of gem quality andesine for years.

Stop for a minute and look at this location. One hole. That is a lot of gem quality andesine to come out of one hole. But this image is taken directly from one of the Hughes Tibet Andesine Expedition Reports. Below is an evaluation of these expedition reports including links to scientific studies that prove these expedition reports to be hoaxes. Evidence that confirms that these expeditions are hoaxes even comes directly from the National Gem Testing Center of China who also visited this area and reported finding warehouses full of diffusion treated andesine and no proof of any mine location.

The main question is: Why does the gemstone industry not hold Richard W. Hughes responsible for this hoax? We will let you review the evidence and decide for yourself.

We will first review the actual report of the National Gem Testing Center of China who visited the site where the Richard W. Hughes expeditions claimed to find gem quality andesine. Here is the China organization report on what they found when they visited the site:

When Richard W. Hughes and his group finally produced specimens of this claimed gem quality Tibet andesine, advanced testing by independent scientific testing labs found clear evidence of the stones having been artificially treated. One note regarding the above report, it was later found that the Ponderosa Sunstone Mine website failed to list Dana Schorr as a member of the Board of Directors. While our research was correct that Schorr was indeed not listed as a Board member, it was later revealed that this was an error by the Ponderosa Mine. That correction is hereby noted and published. However, this does not alter the facts regarding the status of the expedition, including the participation by Schorr, as a hoax. Here is that report:

If you add to these reports the mineralogical report by Dr. Joel Arem that proved the claim of andesine forming in the manner claimed by Hughes to be unknown, and the geological report by Geologist Roni Poteat that showed the location of the claimed mine deposit from the claimed volcanic source could not have happened....the evidence is clear. The expedition reports by Richard W. Hughes are a combined hoax. Intended on furthering the Tibet andesine fiasco that has been perpetrated for years on consumers.

We want to note that the two biggest pieces of evidence that Hughes could have provided to prove his claims are missing from any of his reports:

  1. Actual untreated andesine specimens that would stand up to independent lab testing, and
  2. Geological proof of the origin of the andesine including specimens in the original volcanic matrix rock.

Richard W. Hughes cannot provide either. He has provided not one iota of evidence either in the geology or mineralogy field. And the specimens he has presented have been exposed as having been treated.

There is no other conclusion possible than the Richard W. Hughes Tibet Andesine Expeditions were hoaxes. Contrived stories to cover up a multi-million dollar fraud that was perpetrated on the industry and consumers.
